Meet the Thirsty Perch Blues Band
Thirsty Perch Music, 2009
Blues-Source
Thirsty Perch is rapidly becoming the sweethearts of the local blues fans in Grand Rapids, MI.
The soaring guitar battles between Chris Collins and Dan Lomas and the scorching harp work of Chuck Luscombe are all held together by the bond of drummer George Ferguson and bassist Phillip A. who perform like they are joined at the hip.
Of the eleven tracks on this CD, the band debut release, all but two were written by Chris Collins.
The two covers were well chosen and include I Live the Blues penned by fellow Michigan musician Motor City Josh and Help Me written by the late great Willie Dixon.
Track two, Don`t need it no More, is a driving rock/blues anthem reminiscent of early Bob Seger which is followed by the shuffle Heartbreak City featuring the harp of Chuck Luscombe. The only slow ballad on the disc is Half-Hearted which with just Collins vocal and Lomas`s acoustic guitar before the rest slowly blend in. After that they jump right back into the up tempo party music.
The Perch recorded this CD at Makinaw Harvest Studios with Micheal Crittenden overseeing the mix.
This CD is an accurate representation of what you hear when you see the band live. They have fun and that transmits to the audience and then the band feeds off the good time party vibe coming back at them.It makes for some fun times.I mean how can you not have fun with a band whose trademark is a perch sticking head first in a mug of beer. That`s a dead giveaway of good times ahead.
I`d recommend the CD to anybody looking to have fun. This is not a cry in your beer, my wife ran away with my best friend kind of blues. Roll the carpet back and get ready to have a good time because every time these guys hit the stage, or the cd player, it`s a party !
